Vowels are essentially a tone or a ‘hum’, issuing front the glottis, with  the vocal cords normally vibrating. There are twenty vowels in  English. All of them oral, each represented in the writing system by different letters and their combinations.

     ·      Centralized Front half close unrounded vowels

/e/  

     ·      Front unrounded vowel between half close half close and half open

/æ/  

    ·      Front unrounded vowel just below  the half open position.

/É’/

    ·      Back  rounded vowel just above the open position

/É™/

    ·      Central unrounded short vowel

/ʌ/

    ·      Central unrounded vowel between open and half open.

/ÊŠ/

    ·      Centralized back rounded vowel just above half close











/I:/

    ·      Front closed unrounded vowel

/É‘:/

    ·      A back open unrounded vowel

/É”:/

    ·      A back rounded vowel between half open and half close

/u:/

    ·      A back close rounded vowel

/3:/

    ·      Central unrounded vowel between half close and half open




Closing diphthongs gliding to

    ·       Half- close front position and moves /i/

    ·       Closing movement of the lower jaw

    ·       Lips are spread

/ai/

    ·       Front open position and moves  /i/

    ·       Lips have a neutral position

    ·       Lips are rounded at beginning, changing to neutral towards the end
